Year Two Assignment – Leave off one habit
Gail, Ashland Jivana Group
I have a habit of being too much in the world politically. I read 2 newspapers per day and often watch MSNBC News for 1 hour per day (my husband has this TV Channel on all day). I volunteer to help with the homeless population, many of whom have mental illness. This lifestyle is no longer serving me as I find the news today a never-ending source of chaos and I feel mildly agitated and impotent. I am hoping to focus inward, enhance my yogic life and let go of the parts of boga which do not serve me. I have since begun to read only the headline news on my phone and stop reading the print news or TV. Initially it felt like I was not part of the world but after 2 weeks I felt part of the world in a different way. I felt and feel calmer after 1 month, do not feel ill-informed but rather more grounded with more of a feeling of being part of a natural and eternal world. I will see if I can maintain this attitude and not feel uninformed when I visit my husband’s family at the end of this month who revel in their knowledge and political opinions. I wonder about my attachment to feeling smart and informed. Is that a vanity? I do not need this self definition and will work on detaching.
These exercises have served me and brought me back to what is really important for me which is a path toward Realization.
