Dawn, J P Nagar, India
my name is dawn and i am an american from colorado living in mysore south india in a small quiet area called j.p nagar.
this corona time of course has been very difficult for many and i am fully aware of the hardships people are facing, but strangely for me it has been a real blessing. a time i have been able to have real isolation. i would never have had the discipline or the opportunity for such an extended retreat. the fact that i am old now with no personal responsibilities is also timely. the lockdown for the 3.5 mns. was the best. i told the family upstairs that i was in isolation, they were a little hurt at first but soon understood, being aged at this time has been an advantage.
many times i did not speak for days. i was in touch with two friends by phone so spoke occasionally.
this isolation would not have been possible without my neighbor jagadish, who had free time as he is waiting for a masters program to start. he has been doing all my shopping etc etc so the only time i have had to go out is to the bank up the road.
as things opened up the mother and daughter from upstairs and their little son came down for asana many days before the mid-day practice. vedant at 4 can nicely sing the “yogena cittasya” now. so it was fun to have time with them again. i also in late summer joined the jivana/portugal program. this was a big move to get so involved with the outside but i really enjoy the group..the sanskrit makes me a little strained but i am hoping it is beneficial. i am the worst student in the class, lior says i am improving.. but he maybe is just being kind.
further changes now since the parks are open for walking and one is right next to me so i can walk in the morning and no one is there so i can pull the mask down. the park is lovely as we had so much rain it is a wonderful place to breathe freely and deeply. i tried to practice the yoga sutra chanting as stacey recommended while walking but it caused me to trip. it is not easy to walk there and think i will keep yoga sutras for home. i do know some.
i am sure i would never have been so contented during this time if it were not for the love of acharya and the warmth of india. i feel truly blessed and very grateful. we are all very lucky to have such a group of well wishers also.
namaste dawn
