Carole, Ashland Group
The blessings, insights, and eye-opening perspectives illuminated through the Sacred Scriptures and teachings from Ācārya, and more recently Ganapathi; the mentorship of Kristin, our group discussions and assignments, and the Ayurvedic nourishment I have received from this divine knowledge (and continue to receive), is difficult to articulate clearly. In the darkness, it is my North Star casting light on the path when I falter, illuminating a distant yet familiar knowing and a deep calm within. Sometimes hidden by the light of day, but always constant. Throughout the Pandemic of 2020, this illumination has been unwavering and has allowed me to continue on the path through it all.
For me, the most impactful aspect of the Pandemic has been the loss of life and the loss of livelihood for millions across the globe. The consequences heaved upon communities large and small, the unfathomable emotional toll humanity is experiencing, moves me deeply. As a family, including our business and employees, we have counted our blessings that the virus and all the challenges and travesty that travels with it did not have a larger impact on our day-to-day living. Sometimes it was difficult to know what day we were living in, however as a result, this year, this day, I’m more energized and passionate to experience and appreciate the incredible beauty and abundant gifts held within EACH unique day and illuminated EACH unique night. That is my gift from Covid.
I was born in London, England, and grew up in Europe, the Far East, and the United States, moving frequently. I eventually settled down in Southern California, and finally headed to Southern Oregon 24 years ago this month. Along with my husband Michael, a Mechanical Designer and Engineer, we raised two beautiful daughters, and share life with a trove of happy albeit muddy dogs. My name is Carole Sorensen, and it’s been really, really lovely to meet you all.
Additionally, I cannot let this moment pass without taking a moment to extend heartfelt thanks to Ācārya, Kristin and the entire Sadvidya Foundation for this beautiful program, but also to recognize Lisa Norvell, Devon Evans and Laura Roll for their enormous contributions to and sustainment of what became our local Jivana Yoga Sangha.
