Year Two Assignment – Leave off one habit

Sitting 10 minutes twice a day, in addition to my regular meditation practice, was a beautiful experience. I was ready to freshen my longer meditations, as they had cooled to feel like minimal connection was being made. This practice managed to liven these longer sits as well as sprinkle delight and calm at times in my day which were normally accelerating towards dissonance.
During the first couple of weeks these times in nature, late morning and mid afternoon lifted my spirits, and as there were basically no ‘rules’, which left my critic speechless. It was as if I were given permission to playfully run through cosmic space within my being, and I was surprised how freeing this was. I looked forward to witnessing the lime green leaves, bird song, water splashing in the creek. Joy returned within me, connection was returning, it even felt as if roots were growing and grounding me more thoroughly. I found a magnetic draw toward this inactivity when these times of day arrived.
This simple exercise wound up having profound impacts on my state of being, and I’m very grateful to have had this opportunity to explore more fully the wonders of stillness.
