Kaṣāya is appropriate for all constitutions in all seasons and is recommended one – three times a day. It helps maintain the digestive fire and builds immunity by balancing the doshas.

Immune Building Kaṣāya

Preparation: 15 minutes

Makes: 1 serving

 

Ingredients

1 cup/250ml water

1 tsp heaped coriander seed

1 tsp heaped cumin seed

⅛ tsp flat turmeric powder

10 – 15 holy basil leaves or 1-inch thin slice ginger

1 tsp sugar or jaggery

1 – 4 Tbsp milk

 

Preparation

1.  Add water, coriander, cumin, turmeric and holy basil (or ginger) – bring to boil,

then reduce to maintain a rapid simmer – 15 mins or until reduced by half.

2.  Turn off heat, add jaggery and milk – to taste.

3.  Strain before serving slightly cooled.
