Year Two Assignment – Leave off one habit

Leave off one habit:
I decided to not watch, listen to, or read anything having to do with the news. I noticed immediately that it took great effort to walk away or remove myself from areas, people and circumstances that dealt with news. I had to recruit other people to help me be successful and respect this request. As time progressed it got easier to stay away from the news or people who wanted to discuss the news. However, if I was tired, or under stress it took a greater effort to remain true to this goal.
My meditation practice improved almost immediately as the frequency of thoughts and volume level in my mind lowered substantially. My mind had less information to process and ruminate on, I could relax and rest in a greater sense of optimism and trust.
These days I limit the amount of information I ingest and can immediately tell when I need to return to this practice of taking in less information rather than more. I’ve chosen, instead, to use this time for prayer and spiritual practices which have brought greater harmony and balance back into my life.
