Today is Guru Poornima.
“There are no words that fully explain the grace of the Guru in a disciple’s life. The disciples come in contact with the Guru through the grace of a Guru. The Eternal Truth itself is the original Guru, the Guru for this whole universe. He is the creator, protector and destroyer. Through His grace, the Guru creates good habits and engenders the disciple to cultivate good behavior. The Guru protects by showing the disciple the path to lead a calm and peaceful life. The Guru destroys previous bad deeds and uplifts the disciple. For all three to happen, a disciple must totally surrender to the Guru.
Guru Poornima is the birthday of Maharshi Veda Vyasa. He was a great rushi who divided the Vedas into four parts: Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda, and Atharvaveda. His original name was Krishna Dwaipayana. Because he divided the Vedas, he was known as Veda Vyasa. He has given us the holy Mahabharata and the eighteen myths in which Indian culture is embedded and empowered.”
