from Ross Finney
Letter to Ācārya
Two years ago, my wife and I confronted one of the deepest challenges a parent can face. Our 13-year-old daughter was gravely ill with an eating disorder. She needed treatment, but recovery centers were overwhelmed with demand and the projected wait for a spot was months out. She became hospitalized and we were desperate to get her the care she needed.
During that time, I was able to send you a letter about her condition. I received confirmation that you had received my letter, and shortly after a placement came open. We took our daughter to a treatment facility over 2,000 miles from our home and she began treatment.
Unfortunately, that facility was not able to help her, and she had to return to the hospital. I immediately flew down to be with her. Once again, I was able to get a message to you about our situation. Within a few days, we were blessed with divine grace. A spot came open in another facility that was ultimately able to help our daughter. So began her long steady path to recovery.
I struggle to find words to describe the feelings of peace and hope that came over me each time I learned that you had received my letters. Even as I write this today, tears stream at that recollection. I will be eternally grateful for my connection with you and your support.
The knowledge and teachings you have so graciously shared have helped me access my true inner self, experiencing the soul and the oneness of all things. In turn, this inner journey has also led me to become a better husband and father. I am healthier in body and mind and more resilient and able to navigate the inevitable challenges of life.
With my profound gratitude,
Ross Finney
