Makara Sankranthi or Pongal
Yasha Prashna Talks, Mysore, 2017 Post from Aytana In Karnataka, the festival is called ‘Makara Sankranti’, cows and bullocks are gaily decorated and fed ‘Pongal’- a sweet preparation of rice. It marks the beginning of Uttarayana, the Sun’s movement northward for a six month period into the zodiacal sign of Makara (Capricorn).
